IEHA Announces 2010 Spartan-Sponsored Scholarship Award Winner
Westerville, OH — The International Executive Housekeepers Association (IEHA) is pleased to announce IEHA member Stas Khaitin, REH, as the 2010 recipient of the IEHA Spartan-Sponsored Scholarship Award. Khaitin was born and raised in the former Soviet Union, and came to the United States in 1995. In his application letter, he states how he will use the scholarship funds:
"Due to an economic downturn in the United States and after being laid off as a Director of Housekeeping and Laundry Services with an assisted living facility back in February of 2010, I have decided to invest in my education in order to increase my knowledge and marketability for finding new employment," says Khaitin.
Khaitin holds an Industrial Management degree from University of Central Missouri and a Registered Executive Housekeeper (REH) designation from IEHA. In addition, he holds certifications in Fire Safety, HVAC, and OSHA Safety. He is also pursuing a Building Maintenance Certification from the International Development Institute in Manhattan, New York.
"With these scholarship funds, it will help in getting my previous education, IEHA designation, and most recent training paid off," says Khaitin.
Due to Khaitin's investment in education, he was recently hired as a Manager of Building Services with Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, where he is in charge of building services operations of a 326-bed acute care hospital and a 538-bed adult and pediatric skilled nursing long-term care facility. Congratulations, Stas!
A $1,500 scholarship, sponsored by Spartan Chemical, is awarded to the best-qualified candidate as determined by IEHA's Scholarship Selection Committee, and the award is granted each year in the fall. The Spartan-Sponsored Scholarship Award is available to IEHA members and their immediate family members. Each applicant is required to submit an application, along with a letter briefly explaining why he or she is applying for the funds, what they are to be used for, and an explanation of their career goals.
