IEHA’s 50th Conference and Convention to Recognize the Association’s Rich History

By EHT Staff

On Oct. 23-28, 2016, cleaning professionals from all around the globe will gather at the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza in Chicago for IEHA’s 50th Conference and Convention. This is just around the corner from where a similar group of professionals gathered more than 85 years ago for the organization’s third conference and convention at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago.

The two primary differences? The group 85 years ago were exclusively women who were responsible for managing custodial and housekeeping operations in hotels, hospitals and educational facilities within the U.S. only.

“To say that we’ve come a long way is an understatement,” said IEHA President Michael Patterson. “In the early days, members had to submit a photo of themselves along with their membership application to prove they were female. Now we have an international organization that offers the industry’s best certification program. It’s something that we offer to men and women in a variety of facility types from as far away as Kuwait and Vietnam. And this is only the beginning of where we plan to go in the near future.”

To celebrate the 50th Conference and Convention and offer some insight into the events that have shaped IEHA, we will soon post an online timeline highlighting different points in the Association’s history. To give you a glimpse into what that will include, we’ve included a short slide show of images from our archives below.

If you'd like to join us in Chicago, it's not too late! The online registration form is located at www.ieha.org/convention, or you can register by calling the Association Office at 800.200.6342

I love these historical pictures, I am blessed that I can look at them everyday. These treasures are housed right here in Westerville Ohio in our IEHA office.
