How Many Angels Can Dance on the Head of a Pin? (What is the square-feet-per FTE formula?)
Probably the most-asked question goes something like this: "I am in charge of cleaning a 2-million-square-foot campus. Are there standards for the amount of FTE's needed to maintain this amount of space?" This article will help you figure out the answers to questions like these for your facility.

FTEs: A Fresh Approach to an Old Challenge
Do you need more FTEs (full-time equivalents)? While I’m sure that there is an enthusiastic chorus of “yes” coming from the offices of my industry colleagues, it is most likely tempered by the fact that justifying those FTE requests can be difficult on a good day and nothing short of a disaster on a bad one. So, how is it done? Many of the industries’ leading experts on the subject will probably tell you: “It depends.” They’re right, of course, but selling the idea of staffing increases, as well as protecting your department from staffing reductions, remains a fairly challenging territory, despite some of the outstanding work devoted to the subject.

Shaw Industries’ MAC (Maintenance and Cleaning) Program
MAC (Maintenance and Cleaning) is an interactive, web-based training course for the maintenance of commercial carpet. There are three MAC training courses available to you: MAC for Managers is designed for the decision maker; MAC for Technician is a shorter version for the technician actually doing the cleaning; and is available in English and Spanish. The Registration Code "IEHA" gives the entire organization access to all three courses and does not limit the number of people who can participate. For instructions on how to access the MAC program, please download the PDF document.
